Wissahickon Garden Club Scrapbook/ Album 21 This album is the 21th in a series of albums created by members of the Wissahickon Garden Club [WGC], with content from 2012-2013. Covers are green cloth-covered boards with a printed label in a frame on the cover, with "Wissahickon Garden Club Founded 1932." All pages are mylar plastic sleeves with paper inserts bound into the album with two aluminum screws. Page 1 includes a memorial program for Ann Stookey [2.2.1952- 11.6.2012]. Pages 2 and 3 include pages from the WGC's 2012-2013 program. Three clippings from unknown sources are attached to page 4; these include a tribute to Ann Stookey, a Garden Club of America annual meeting announcement, and an image of four scarves with caption "The 2013 Annual Meeting Centennial Scarf." An announcement for "Annual Conservation Speaker Series" is attached to page 5. Jonathan Strickland of Pennypack Farm was the speaker. The event was hosted at the home of Pat and Tom Griffin, of 742 Hunt Lane, Flourtown. Pages 6 and 7 include results of the Horticulture Show, September 2012. Those mentioned include Cornie Walton, Mary Jane Greenwood, Alice Farley, Maryalice Cheney, Judy Romig, Ginger Arthur, Sandy Greenwood, Jennifer Nagle, Carolyn Adams, Sarah Andrews, Ann Hunter, Joan Biddle, and Patricia Griffin. Pages 8-12 have content associated with a flower show held November 6, 2012. Page 8 includes the announcement "Calling all WGC Anglophiles- November 6 Flower Show, with themes "Royal Jewels," "Brideshead Today," and "Styled by Kate. Two color photos a-b of entries are included on this page. Page 9 includes three color photographs a-c, of entries at the show. Pages 10 and 11 each include three color photographs a-c, of entries. A "thank you" for those who participated in the Flower Show is attached to page 12. Those mentioned include Alice Flint, Leslie Newbold, Alison Romig, Ann Kelly, Molly Ellis, Stacy Blankin, Jennifer Nagel, Jenny McHugh, Ginger Arthur, Jennifer Ponce, Anna Cooke, Judy Romig, and Pat Griffith. Four unlabeled color photographs a-d are attached to page 13, of unidentified people at an unknown event. Pages 14 and 15 includes five unlabeled color photographs a-e and four color photographs a-d, respectively, of unidentified people at an unknown event. A program for the 2013 Philadelphia Flower Show, with the theme "Brilliant!," is inserted into the sleeve of page 16. Pages 17-23 each include three color photographs a-c, taken of various entries at the 2013 Philadelphia Flower Show. It is unclear as to which entries are those of WGC members, with the exception of that on page 23, of the WGC's "Workin' Gherkin" entry. Four color photographs a-d are attached to page 24, of WGC entries at the 2013 Philadelphia Flower Show. Page 25 features a clipping from an unknown March 2013 publication, with information about Norman Foster's "Gherkin" building in London. Six color photographs a-f are attached in a montage format, on page 26. Those visible in the photographs include but are not limited to Carolyn Adams and Emilie Lapham. Four color photographs a-d are attached to page 27, and include a photo of the "Love" statue and another on East River [Kelly] Drive. Two photos of "The 'Superlove'" and "Watchful Rider" entry comments associated with the photos are included. Similar themes and content are included on pages 28-31, with four, five, six, and three color photographs attached to each page, respectively. Pages 32 and 33 feature two and three color photographs each, with the themes of "Zone V and Beyond..." and "Waterworks Architecture." Pages 34-36 each include four color photographs a-d, of Diane Drinker and unidentified people attending an unknown event. Pages 37-43 each contain 2012/ 2013 issues of the Garden Club of American's "Bulletin." Pages 44 and 45 each include content from the 2013 Royal Horticultural Society's Chelsea Flower Show; the content celebrates the Garden Club of America's 100th anniversary. Page 46 includes a spiral bound "Tips for Exhibiting in Flower Shows" book, which is glued onto the page. The publication was written by the Philadelphia Committee of the Garden Club of America, 2001, and was revised and edited by Cindy Affleck of the WGC, among others. |
